Host your own event

Anyone can host. Small is good: a handful of people who leave with a lead, a better résumé or a little more hope is a win.

Ideas

  • Résumé and LinkedIn review

Volunteers with hiring experience give 20-minute reviews. Works in person or on a video call.

  • Job-seeker meetup

A low-key coffee or park meetup where people between jobs can trade leads and encouragement.

  • Hiring for Good open house

Employers open their doors, talk about real roles and commit to interviewing people between jobs.

  • Ribbon day

Ask your team, school or club to wear the green and white ribbon on the same day and post with the hashtags.

  • Community volunteer day

Strength in the community: volunteer together locally and invite people who are job hunting.

  • Panel or live stream

Recruiters, workforce centers and people who've been through it answer questions live.

Five steps

  1. Pick a format, a date in August and a place (or a video link). Keep it small and free if you can.
  2. Partner up: a library, workforce center, coworking space or employer can host or co-host.
  3. Download the ribbon and sample posts from the toolkit and use them on your invite.
  4. Tell us about it so we can list it here once the 2027 calendar opens.
  5. On the day, take photos (with permission) and post with #UnemploymentAwarenessMonth #HiringForGood.

Get the ribbon and posts from the toolkit, and point attendees to free resources.
